Title: Board Work Session

The Tuckahoe School Board of Trustees Work Session was called to order at 7:30 p.m. by Robert E. Grisnik, Vice-Chairman.

The following Board members and District officials were present:

II. Approval of Minutes

RESOLVED, that the Board of Trustees of the Tuckahoe Common School District approve the minutes of the Annual Budget Hearing and Regular Board Meeting on May 9, 2016 and the Annual Meeting and Trustee Election on May 17, 2016.

Approve:  Motion made by Robert E. Grisnik, seconded by Sean Hattrick, and unanimously carried.

III. Correspondence

1. Correspondence was received from several faculty members regarding the donation of a Buddy Bench from Kait’s Angels.  A special ceremony will take place on Friday, June 3rd for the donation.

IV. Superintendent’s Report

1. Dr. Gerstenlauer discussed the substitute teacher rate of pay with the Board of Trustees and the need to evaluate whether to increase the rate for the next school year.  Further discussion will take place.

V. Business Official’s Report

1. Dr. Kenter reported that Johnson Controls would be attending the June 13th Board Meeting to make a presentation to the Board regarding the Solar Energy Initiative.

2. Dr. Kenter reported that Rachel Longobardi was resigning her position in the Business Office and a resolution was on the agenda.

VIII. Discussion

Discussion took place between the Administration, the Board of Trustees and the community members, regarding substitute teacher pay and the defeat of the 2016/2017 Budget on May 17, 2016.

 

IX. Resolutions (For Approval)

Approve:  Motion made by Sean Hattrick, seconded by Robert E. Grisnik and unanimously carried; BE IT RESOLVED THAT: The Board of Trustees hereby approves the following resolutions numbered 1 through 6. 

Personnel

1. RESOLVED that the Board of Trustees accepts the resignation of Rachel A. Longobardi as part-time Account Clerk effective May 27, 2016.

 

Field Trips

2. RESOLVED that the Board of Trustees approves the field trip request of Grade 6 to visit the Metropolitan Museum of Art on June 9, 2016 from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. for an Art and Social Studies lesson at an approximate cost to the district of $1,950.

3. RESOLVED that the Board of Trustees approves the field tip request of Grade 8 to visit the Southampton High School for orientation on May 26, 2016 from 12:00 p.m. to 2:40 p.m. at an approximate cost to the district of $305.63.

Finance

4. RESOLVED that the Board of Trustees approves the donation of a Buddy Bench, to be placed in the playground area, from Kait’s Angels which is a not-for-profit organization that serves the East End communities to ensure a safe, secure, and positive environment for young people.

CSE Recommendations

5. RESOLVED that the Board of Trustees approves the recommendations from the Committee on Special Education from the meetings on March 16, 2016, April 21, 2016 and May 16, 2016 for the following students.

Building Use

6. RESOLVED that the Board of Trustees approves the following building use requests of the Tuckahoe P.T.O. for the following events in the 2016/2017 school year:

• Scholastic Picture Day in the Cafetorium on October 24, 2016 from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. and November 29, 2016 from 8:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m.
• Scholastic Book Fair in the Cafetorium on October 5, 2016 through October 7, 2016 from 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., and on October 6, 2016 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.
• P.T.O. Meetings in the Faculty Room from 8:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. on the following dates:  September 22, 2015, November 10, 2016, January 12, 2017, March 16, 2017 and April 20, 2017; and from 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. in Room 126 on the following dates:  October 18, 2016, December 12, 2016, February 13, 2017, May 8, 2017 and June 12, 2017.
• Halloween Bingo Night on October 28, 2016 in the Cafetorium from 5:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.
• P.T.O. Thanksgiving Feast on November 18, 2016 in the Cafetorium from 9:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
• P.T.O. Gingerbread House Night on December 9, 2016 in the Cafetorium from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.

• P.T.O. Holiday Shoppe on December 15, 2016 and December 16, 2016 in the Cafetorium from 8:00 p.m. to 2:45 p.m.
• P.T.O. Holiday Program on December 23, 2016 in the Cafetorium.
• P.T.O. Father/Daughter Valentine Dance on February 10, 2017 in the Cafetorium from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
• P.T.O. 100th Day Celebration on February 14, 2017 in the Cafetorium from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
• P.T.O. Plant Sale on May 11, 2017 and May 12, 2017 on the front lawn of the school and Middle School lobby from 8:00 a.m. to 2:45 p.m.
• P.T.O. Teacher and Staff Appreciation Lunch on May 12, 2017 in the Faculty Room from 10:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.

X. Discussion – 2016/2017 Budget and Re-Vote, June 21, 2016

Dr. Gerstenlauer presented several proposals for the Board of Trustees to discuss, regarding a re-vote on June 21, 2016.  Discussion took place between the Administration, the Board of Trustees and the community members present.

XI. Executive Session

At 9:39 p.m., Robert E. Grisnik made a motion to go into Executive Session to discuss Personnel Matters, seconded by Sean Hattrick and unanimously carried.

At 9:53 p.m. the Board came out of Executive Session.

At 9:54 p.m., Sean Hattrick made a motion to adjourn the meeting, seconded by Robert E. Grisnik, and was unanimously carried.
