The Board of Education held its Regular Meeting on Tuesday, May 9,
2006. The business and personnel items were approved in their entirety.
In addition to its regular business, the Board of Education took action
on the following items:
- Accepted the recommendations of the Committee on Special Education.
- Adopted as a second reading Policy #5405 - Wellness Policy.
- Approved 2005-06 proposed field trips.
- Approved Tax Anticipation Notes.
- Accepted with gratitude donations to the Grundy Avenue Science Program.
- Accepted with gratitude the donation from the Sachem East Touchdown Club of weight training equipment.
- Established The Carol Berlinghof Scholarship.
- Established a Bryan Tornabell Scholarship.
- Approved a contract with H2M Architects.
- Approved requests for out-of-district transportation.
- Appointed department chairpersons, deans and a Lead Nurse for the 2006-07 school year.
- Approved fundraising for the Lynwood Playground Committee.
- Approved a resolution reappointing emergency conditional appointments.
The Board of Education recognized the following individuals:
- Merrimac Students/Staff - "Locks" of Love" Donation
- Lynn Kmiotek - TV 55's Educator of the Week (Sagamore)
- Chris Visco - Suffolk County Science Teacher of the Year
- Corporate Merit Scholarship Award Recipients:
a. Laura Yue Bai
b. Tynan Fitzpatrick
The Board of Education discussed the following:
- Audit Sub-Committee
- Guidance Presentation - Class Ranks, Weighted Averages, Pass/Fail
- Public Hearing on the 2006-07 Budget.
The Board of Education has scheduled the following meetings:
- Annual Meeting and Election. On Tuesday, May 16, 2006 there
will be a vote on the 2006-07 school budget and election of members of
the Board of Education at the 12 elementary schools between the hours of
6 am and 9 pm.
- The Board of Education will hold a work session on Thursday, June 8, 2006 at 8 pm at Samoset Middle School in Lake Ronkonkoma.
- The next regular meeting of the Board of Education will be
held on Tuesday, June 20, 2006 at 8 pm at Samoset Middle School in Lake
Ronkonkoma.
